We're almost done!

This week we have been going through all of the colloquial expressions your English teacher may have told you were not correct. However, you will hear native English speakers use them a lot, so they are worth knowing! Today we will be focusing on the colloquial expressions you are most likely to hear during your first sessions on Fluentify.

Task 1 (Grammar)

Listen to the recording containing 5 colloquial questions and their explanations.

• Where are you headed? = Where are you going?
• What is your hometown like? = Please describe your hometown.
• Recasts – You live in Milan, don’t you? = I think I remember you telling me that you live in Milan, but I’m not sure. =  Do you live in Milan?
• How’s it going? = How are you?/ How is your day/week going?
• What’s it like to live in Italy? = Please describe your experience living in Italy.

Task 2 (English in Use)

Listen to this sample dialogue between Katie (tutor) and Marianna (student). Listen to how the student answers some of the colloquial phrases mentioned above. Check your understanding with the transcript (downloadable).
