Partially Agreeing and Disagreeing
Step 2 and 3!
Sarebbe bello se fossimo sempre tutto d'accordo vero? Purtroppo però non è sempre possibile e quindi ogni tanto è necessario esprimere il proprio disaccordo, anche a fatica.
Ebbene, oggi ci occupiamo proprio di questo: come dire in inglese, in modo gentile ed educato, che non siamo d'accordo con il nostro interlocutore. I modi sono diversi e qui sotto ti riportiamo gli esempi principali.
Task 1 (Vocabulary)
Listen to the audio recording of expressions used to partially agree or disagree.
Partially Agreeing
- I agree with your point of view, but...
- You have the right idea, but...
- I agree with you, but...
- I understand what you’re saying, but...
- Actually,
Disagreeing
- I beg to differ. (more polite)
- I don't agree with you.
- I'm not sure I agree with you.
- I think you're completely wrong.
- That’s not always true.
- No way. (very strong opinion)
Task 2 (Vocabulary)
Read the excerpt from an article about the ways that technology both improves and harms our daily lives (Download it from "MATERIALE" section). When you are done reading, write five sentences that express your opinion either agreeing, partially agreeing, or disagreeing with the author’s opinion. Record your sentences and then listen to them.
Task 3 (English in Use)
Read this proverb and think about whether you agree, partially agree, or disagree with the statement. Use the expressions you have been studying in the last two days. “Never tell your problems to anyone...20% don't care and the other 80% are glad you have them.”
